The Live a Big Life Ride is a fundraiser for STOKED Mentoring. This non-profit organization uses the cultures and industries of skateboarding, surfing, and snowboarding to help close the opportunity gap for underserved youth in New York City and Los Angeles. This organization steers youth into the direction of learning and opportunity. Aside from learning about the three action sports, kids get to learn how to build skateboards, create brands, participate in community service, and job shadow professionals.

Sophia and Madeleine are starting their adventure in Santa Barbara, California and ending in Brooklyn, New York. In between, you may find them in Los Angeles, San Diego, Pheonix, El Paso, Austin, New Orleans, Atlanta, Wilmington, Virginia Beach, Rehoboth Beach, and Stone Harbor! Now that is quite the list of destinations.

When asked about how much training the girls completed for this ride, Sophia told us there hasn't been much training, because they haven't needed it. "Biking has been my mode of transportation for five years," explained Sophia.

There are plenty of exciting things that come with this cross country ride. First, riding a bike through the country will bring new perspectives to travel that other modes of transportation do not offer. Sophia is excited to see "the good, the boring and everything else in between." Also, Sophia is looking forward to meeting all kinds of new people and spreading awareness about STOKED.

So, why ride across the country for this cause? What do the riders get out of it? Sophia explained that any person should have the opportunity to "pursue your goals, take risks, stick your neck out there and go out of your comfort zone." It looks like Sophia has found her perfect way to perpetuate better living!
