Beer is Love Partner Spotlight: McKenzie River TrustMar 21, 2014 Comments (0)
It’s not an accident that we decided to brew our beer in Oregon. In addition to having access to the freshest and highest quality ingredients for brewing, we are surrounded by pretty spectacular places in this gem of a state.
It’s also not an accident that we partner with the McKenzie River Trust- an organization committed to protecting the ecosystems that provide clean water (which is SUPER important since you can’t brew great beer without great water!), abundant fish and wildlife, and productive natural landscapes throughout western Oregon.
They currently own and protect over 1800 acres of land in our region of the state and have worked with landowners and other organizations to protect over 3600 acres of critical lands and scenic landscapes over the last 25 years.
Basically, the McKenzie River Trust wants to ensure that this special place will be available for people to enjoy for many generations.
Since we totally dig this mission, we sent 15 members of Team Ninkasi over to Berggren Watershed Conservation Area to help them dig some soil and plant a native pollinator hedgerow.
Armed with shovels, gloves, and great beer to enjoy after the hard work was complete, our crew spent the morning getting dirty and getting some native plants into the ground that will grow and encourage native pollinators (like native bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds) to visit the land and do their thing to help this ecosystem thrive.
This was the second year in a row that we worked with the McKenzie River Trust on a local project along with our friends from Gervais Salon, another local Eugene business, and for the second year in a row, we had so much fun that we plan to do many more events in collaboration with Berggren and McKenzie River Trust in the future.
In addition to contributing manpower from the brewery, as part of our sustained partnership with this incredible organization, we brew Conservation Ale to support their work.
All profits from this special beer help the Trust protect Eugene's sole source of drinking water, the McKenzie River, as well as other Western Oregon rivers. The McKenzie River has been recognized locally, regionally and nationally as one of the cleanest and best tasting sources of water and is one of the main reasons we brew our beer in Eugene.
Obviously we want to do whatever we can to help protect this gem of a water source. Last year, we were able to donate $10,000 from the proceeds of Conservation Ale to the trust and can’t wait to present another check after this year’s round of Conservation Ale is released!
