It’s hard to beat autumn in the Pacific Northwest. The weather is ideal for outdoors adventures and the fields are brimming with fresh crops of hops and other seasonal treasures just begging to be harvested.
When we started to think about what to brew for our fall seasonal release, we knew we wanted to craft something to celebrate this time of year while using these fresh and splendid ingredients that surround Eugene.
A Festbier was the perfect choice. It’s an American take on a German classic, allowing us to find inspiration in both European tradition and the bounty of the Pacific Northwest. It’s a little bit hoppier, a little bit stronger, and a little bit darker than most of the other lagers we’ve made.
Before we set foot on the brew deck, we selected our ingredients. Which didn’t take long since they’re all sourced from Oregon. All of the hops come from farms in the Willamette Valley, the barley was malted just down the road from the brewery, and the water, as always, comes from the stunning and pristine McKenzie River.
Oktoberfest came out exactly as we envisioned: it’s got a toasty malt flavor, a prolific hop aroma, a deep copper color and a dry finish with earthy, grassy notes. It’s an ideal beer for enjoying the crisper months with your closest friends.
So grab a bottle, grab a friend, and join us for a Prost!
