Springfield/Eugene Habitat for Humanity Launches A Brush With Kindness Program
Ninkasi Brewing Company to Provide Volunteers for 2013 Projects
EUGENE, Ore.—April 10, 2013—Springfield/Eugene Habitat for Humanity announces the launch of A Brush With Kindness (ABWK) – a program offering assistance to low-income veterans, disabled and elderly homeowners who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes. Types of projects will include exterior painting, landscaping and yard cleanup, accessibility ramps, gutter repair, and fence repairs for Eugene/Springfield area homeowners.
“This program allows Habitat to expand beyond our successful home-building model to serve many more families in need,” explains Don Griffin, executive director for Springfield/Eugene Habitat for Humanity. “By helping homeowners preserve the quality of their homes, neighborhoods are improved and the community strengthened.”
The program, focused on minor repairs that make a major difference for homeowners, will select partners throughout the year based on three criteria: need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner with Habitat.
The first project, commencing on April 16, 2013, will provide a new accessibility ramp for an elderly, disabled person in Springfield. A team of project volunteers, provided by Ninkasi Brewing Company, will be on-site for at least three days to complete the project. Ninkasi has committed to providing volunteers and funding for at least four projects throughout the year in partnership with ABWK.
“We are honored to partner with Ninkasi Brewing Company to launch our program,” comments Jean Stover, resource development director for Springfield/Eugene Habitat for Humanity. “We feel our vision for a community where everyone has a simple, decent, affordable place to live lends strong support to Ninkasi’s core company purpose to ‘Perpetuate Better Living’ throughout our community.”
“We are excited to build our partnership with Habitat; we’ve always believed in giving back to the communities we serve,” explains Nikos Ridge, CEO of Ninkasi Brewing Company. “This program will enable our employees to contribute with on-the-ground actions that positively impact our community.”
