EUGENE, Ore.—In an award ceremony hosted last week, Ninkasi Brewing Company was recognized as Employer of the Year by The ARC of Lane County for its works with OSLP (Oregon Supported Living Program) and McKenzie Personnel Systems. Presented at The ARC of Lane County’s Annual Banquet, the ceremony recognizes employers and individuals who demonstrate their commitment to helping and creating opportunities for those living with disabilities in Lane County.
“Inclusion is an important core value in any successful community, and working to find opportunities to partner with these organizations and the individuals in their programs has been of great benefit to Ninkasi,” explains Nikos Ridge, Ninkasi Brewing Company Co-Founder and CEO.
Ninkasi has been committed to helping create opportunities for individuals for some time now. Since 2012, the brewery has worked with OSLP (Oregon Supported Living Program), to offer part-time employment to an individual who has quickly become part of the Ninkasi family and who received this year’s Self Determination Award from The ARC of Lane County. When the brewery needed a team of workers last summer to assist with its repacking, the company immediately looked into employment options through McKenzie Personnel Systems, a non-profit organization established as the first free-standing supported employment program in Oregon, and since then, has continuously employed 10 individuals through this partnership.
“For many of these employees, it is the first time they have received a steady paycheck, “says Anna Baki, employment specialist for McKenzie Personnel Systems. “All have told me they enjoy working for Ninkasi and we have enjoyed working with such a committed partner.”
“It has been a great win-win, and we will continue to look for opportunities to build on our partnerships in the future,” says Ridge.
