Beer is Love Partner Spotlight: Shred BettiesFeb 29, 2016 Comments (0)
Our Beer is Love program allows us to support causes that are nearest and dearest to our heart. One of these is empowering women. Another is to get outside and get active. When one organization is doing work to promote, not just one, but TWO of our favorite issues, it's doubly fun and meaningful to support their work.
Shred Betties is one of these organizations. They're a non-profit organization on a mission to support female snowboarders. They raise the stoke for snowy adventures by operating the world’s #1 all-women’s snowboard publication and help provide editorial and financial support for female athletes through fundraising efforts and events. We recently teamed up with Shred Betties for their first-ever Betties Session, a clinic that provides backcountry safety and education and snowboarding fun for women. We caught up with them after the event to find out how it went.

Tell about your organization and event:
In 2016, Shred Betties launched The Betties Sessions, a winter tour that elevates female participation in snowsports throughout the West.
“Our goal with The Betties Sessions is to invite ladies of all ages and abilities to join Shred Betties for a fun day at the mountain,” said event organizer Aimi Xistra-Rich.
The first event at Powder Mountain, Utah was one for the books.
Backcountry expert Liz Hebertson, assisted by members of the Powder Mountain Patrol, provided two days of education and assessment training to a group of enthusiastic female skiers and riders. Highlights were a surprise search and rescue drill with the added bonus of a patrol dog demonstration; as well as CAT rides up Lightening Ridge – unforgettable. While one group of ladies was learning about backcountry safety, another group was learning terrain park tricks with snowboard and healthy living coach Diana Sciandra from A Healthy Ride.
How does a beer donation impact your event
Après is the after-party for the snowsports culture. After an amazing day on the mountain, everyone likes to come together to share stories of their best runs. Step into any après party and you’ll feel the energy and positive vibes emitting from everyone still riding the rush from the day.

Ladies love great beer and Ninkasi is brewing delicious après brews that we were able to share with our Shred Betties.
What does the Beer is Love Program mean to you?
The Ninkasi Beer is Love Program has been providing support for snowsports for over five years. Our cultures intertwine and we appreciate everything that you do! Our mission is to create women who love snowsports, and our Ninkasi sponsorship makes our après fun and unique. I love hosting event tastings for women, as with all our endeavors, women are very passionate about asking questions. I’m proud to promote Ninkasi and be able to tell them they’re drinking great beer.
Music is an integral part of our brewery, what would be the theme song of your organization?
This question actually raised a huge debate between our Shred Betties! We decided that we would like to choose a song for the Powder Mountain Betties Session – “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper. But we have yet to AGREE on a song that represents the organization on a whole. Stay tuned...
