New Zealand and U.S. Hops Collide in OBF Festival BeerJul 18, 2017 Comments (0)
July really is the most wonderful time of year in Oregon. Not only do we get to let our skin finally get a much needed dose of Vitamin D, but we also get to (officially) celebrate "Oregon Craft Beer Month." We end the month on the highest of all notes with Portland's Oregon Brewers Festival (OBF). In its 30th year, OBF is one of the best beer fests in the State, boasting some of the best beers our state has to offer.
To celebrate this year's fest, we will tap a special collaboration beer, brewed exclusively for OBF: Beautiful Trouble.
It was last year, at this very festival, that this collaboration was born. New Zealand brewers of Birkenhead Brewing Co., met our founding brewer, Jamie Floyd, and connected almost instantaneously. It was clear, while more than 7,000 miles away, Ninkasi and Birkenhead had a lot in common. A few months later Jamie, along with our co-founder, Nikos Ridge, and CFO, Nigel Francisco, caught a flight to New Zealand and brewed the first batch of Beautiful Trouble to be sold in New Zealand, Australia and China this past January.
Now, debuting for the first time in the United States, we're proud to bring this collaboration exclusively to OBF and to the Ninkasi Tasting Room.
Beautiful Trouble is a big American IPA with a touch of Kiwi inspiration. New Zealand and U.S. hops collide, creating a tropical and fruity hop aroma and flavor. Pacific Jade, Nelson Sauvin, Citra, Mosaic and Amarillo hops offer notes of white wine grapes, tropical fruit, melon, and passionfruit, all balanced by rich Munich and Vienna malts. Originally brewed in New Zealand with Birkenhead Brewing Co., the Kiwis return to the U.S. for a second round of collaboration with Ninkasi Brewing. 6.8% ABV, 65 IBU
